All food choices have consequences. Our love of avocados (which in Mexico are known as "green gold") are wreaking havoc on the environment, because they have had to increase production of them and are now using significantly more pesticides as well. They are grown in drought areas and are using up their limited water supplies. 
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), between 2006 and 2016 the number of avocado orchards worldwide increased from 381,000 to 564,000 hectares. Most of these are found in Mexico, where the fruit was grown originally. Read more here. And here
